This face mask show the symbol of the women's movement or radical feminism which seeks to establish political, social, and economic equality for women. The familiar symbol of a circle with a cross beneath it originated in Ancient Greece. It is one of many symbols found carved in ancient stone, which were used to reference the heavenly bodies as well as their corresponding gods and goddesses. This one represented the planet and goddess Venus. The eighteenth century botanist, Carl Linnaeus was actually the first in recorded history to use these symbols, and particularly those of Mars and Venus, in reference to sex.
The clenched fist was a symbol of 1960's and early 1970's "power" movements.
