The Bristol Bus Boycott of 1963 took its name from the Montgomery Bus Boycott in the US about a decade earlier, yet it had a subtly different focus. Yes, this was about racism, but in this case it was the Bristol Omnibus Company that refused to employ Black or Asian bus crews in the city of Bristol, England. Founded by Roy Hackett and led by youth worker Paul Stephenson, the boycott rallied the support of Bristolians over a period of four months until the company eventually had to back down and drop its discriminative colour bar policy. This tea towel celebrates some of the men and women involved in that campaign.

Half Panama bleached organic cotton (heavy weight, textured finish). Stitched on all four sides. Includes hanging loop. Measures approximately 48cm x 70cm. Machine wash at 40 degrees centigrade max. We recommend that before you use your tea towel for the first time you wash it at least once to soften up the material and make it more absorbent for drying dishes. Please note size can vary slightly.

This was given to a retired Bristol Bus driver who knew all concerned and was involved. Now 80 years old it stirred memories of times past.
